Subsea & Umbilicals Achievements from the Gulf Coast to South America

October 2019

In July, the Guyana Projects leadership team visited the TechnipFMC Rio de Janeiro, Brazil facility for a special recognition event. Subsea tree number 13 for the Liza Phase 1 project was the 600th tree manufactured at the TechnipFMC facility.

As with previous events recognizing the delivery of every 100 trees, a celebration was held with all workers at the Brazil facility along with TechnipFMC leadership representatives from around the world. Lisa Waters, Vice President Deepwater of ExxonMobil Global Projects Company, and Arnaud Pieton, President Subsea at TechnipFMC, both spoke at the event.

August 16 marked the one-year anniversary of the opening of the shorebase in Trinidad. Over the past year, the shorebase has conducted critical testing, loadout and support activities for subsea trees, tubing heads, tubing hangers and tooling to support the offshore Guyana drilling and installation campaigns.

Since its opening in August 2018, the facility has operated with no recordable safety incidents, which is a testament to the integrated TechnipFMC and ExxonMobil site team driving safety and quality performance on a daily basis. To mark the occasion, a workshop was held to reflect on key accomplishments and learnings along with appreciation events for the shorebase operations team.

The subsea umbilicals scope successfully completed in Channelview, Texas, in August. The umbilicals were transported via barge to Mobile, Alabama, then transpooled onto the Saipem Constellation in September for transport to Guyana.

The Constellation has arrived at the Liza Phase 1 field and has begun installation and hookup activities. With the Destiny FPSO’s early arrival in Guyana, the close collaboration and flexibility between ExxonMobil, TechnipFMC and Saipem allowed everyone to align in support of critical path activities to start offshore hookup and commissioning.
