Gearing up for drilling completions

The Liza Phase 1 Subsurface team has been focused on landing eight wells into the reservoir by the end of 2018. The first hardware related to completions began arriving in Georgetown in November. The C-installer vessel has also begun installing the first tubing head spools necessary for completions activities.

During the fourth quarter of 2018, the Subsurface team has put particular effort into relationship building in preparation for drilling through the reservoir and installing the completions. This stage of work requires a great deal of cross-team collaboration to be able to successfully penetrate the critical areas of the reservoir for maximum recovery and optimize mechanical completion to meet each well’s production objectives. Not only does this involve staff working across multiple locations in Houston and Guyana, but also communication between several engineering disciplines: geoscience, reservoir, drilling and completions.

With the expanding stakeholder groups at this point, it is critical to ensure that all the protocols and logic for the drilling and completions activity are clearly understood and communicated. Because drilling is a 24/7 operation, the Subsurface team is focused on ensuring there is a clear path for decision making, and that the underlying logic for that decision making continues to hold true as additional stakeholders become involved.
