Liza Phase 1 Subsea Equipment Testing and Installation Continues

July 2019

TechnipFMC (TFMC) continues to deliver subsea equipment to support the offshore drilling program and installation campaigns for the Liza Phase 1 project. The second subsea tree was installed in May, and equipment is mobilizing to the field on a monthly basis to support the drilling and completions activities.

Following the loadout of the subsea structures in April, all structures were installed by Saipem in May. This includes the suction piles, production manifolds, injection manifolds and subsea distribution units.

The suction piles serve as the foundations on the seabed for the subsea structures. The manifolds are subsea hardware that connect the subsea trees and flowlines, and route the flow of fluids. Production manifolds direct produced fluids to the flowlines, and injection manifolds direct injection fluids to one or more subsea wells. A subsea distribution unit (SDU) provides communications from the subsea controls to the FPSO.

In Singapore, TFMC completed pre-commissioning activities for the topsides controls subsea equipment on the Liza Destiny FPSO. The team will perform final testing later this year when the vessel arrives offshore Guyana.

The main static and dynamic umbilicals have completed termination activities and are currently undergoing factory acceptance testing (FAT). The umbilicals are bundles of cables and hoses that will transfer power, chemicals and communications from the FPSO to the subsea equipment. They are scheduled for transpooling to the Saipem Constellation installation vessel in September before the vessel mobilizes to Guyana.
