Liza project team visit to TechnipFMC marks manufacturing milestone

January 2017

Subsea trees and equipment for Liza Phase 1 Project are now in production, at project supplier partner TechnipFMC’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

ExxonMobil executives visited the center in November to witness the start of manufacturing work on the Liza subsea equipment. TechnipFMC is a global leader in subsea, onshore/offshore, and surface projects, working on the engineering manufacture and delivery of the subsea equipment for Liza Phase 1 Project.

TechnipFMC, under contract with ExxonMobil will fabricate a large part of the subsea infrastructure, including seventeen, enhanced vertical deep water trees, associated tooling, five manifolds, associated controls and tie-in equipment.

The ExxonMobil visitors also met some of the Guyanese engineers that TechnipFMC have recruited and brought to Brazil to work on the project. The engineers are receiving training and development, and will work with the TechnipFMC teams throughout the production and installation phases.

Detailed design reviews for the subsea system are complete for major equipment parts, and elsewhere, procurement processes are underway with suppliers worldwide, and materials at various facilities across the globe ready for machining and manufacturing. The first tree system is due for assembly in three or four months time and the first two tree systems must be in Guyana around December 2018, ready for deployment offshore, to meet the target for the drilling campaign.

“This visit is a significant milestone in the project,” said Jeff Karlik, ExxonMobil’s Subsea Systems and Umbilicals manager for Liza Phase 1 project. “It was a good opportunity to see some Liza material in the shop – you can tell that all the people here at the facility are very excited for this opportunity and we look forward to working with TechnipFMC in the foreseeable future.”
