Production pipe reaches milestone, and looking ahead to protect it
Riser and flowline pipe coating has been completed at Shawcor’s Channelview and Veracruz facilities. A significant milestone for Liza Phase 1 was achieved when Saipem’s first shipment of production pipe arrived in Guyana on December 19. This pipe – with an overall length of 70 km in total – will be staged at the John Fernandes Ltd. shorebase in Georgetown, Guyana prior to installation.
In preparation for the start of offshore work, the marine spread has been selected. Saipem has awarded a contract to DOF Subsea for the Skandi Neptune, an ROV construction support vessel. The Skandi Neptune is scheduled to arrive in country in February 2019 to conduct the pre-installation survey in preparation for the FDS2 arrival on April 1.
Buoyancy modules and strakes manufacturing is progressing on schedule and is currently about 50 percent complete. This equipment is slated to start shipping in late January and arrive in March 2019, along with final load of production pipe.
The buoyancy modules will be attached to the linepipe and risers in order to provide uplift. The strakes will completely cover the pipe, other than where the buoyancy modules are installed, and help eliminate vortex induced vibration (VIV) in the pipe. Both of these elements will help reduce stress on the pipe and counteract fatigue impact in the harsh offshore environment.
