Liza Phase 2 is hitting milestones

July 2018

Over the last few months, the Liza Phase 2 team has successfully completed several major milestones in progressing a second fast-paced project in Guyana.

The team passed Gate 2 in April on a concept that includes 30 wells tied back to a 220kbd FPSO. The FPSO is named the Liza Unity and will utilize SBM’s Fast4Ward concept, which enables delivery of a large FPSO like Unity to an accelerated schedule.

We have recently awarded contracts to SBM Offshore in order to commence FEED. However, the hull itself is already under construction by SBM at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard in China, with first steel cut occurring in April.

SURFPre-FEED wrapped up in March, which included working with Genesis to successfully complete the most complex riser analysis they’ve ever performed. Selection of the riser hang-off system occurred around the same time with award of a contract to Oil States Industries to provide FlexJoints™ for Phase 2.

In parallel, FEED has been completed for subsea systems with TechnipFMC. An initial work release has been provided for TechnipFMC to continue engineering and purchase key raw materials. SURF tieback system and installation planning is also progressing welland FEED work with Saipem is nearing completion. Given the scope of Phase 2, installation is being planned across two seasons, and we are working on the associated contract award in the coming weeks.

Lastly, in Guyana we are making good progress on key permits, with both the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Development Plan submitted to Government in June. Approval of these two submissions will be important to support full funding by the end of the year.

The Phase 2 team has done an incredible job in accomplishing all of the above in such a short amount of time. We have an exciting time ahead as we work towards full funding at the end of the year, and we look forward to sharing more of our progress toward  “Delivering Unity to Guyana”.
