Detailed engineering and cost-efficient procurement are essential for a project as complex as Liza Phase 2 – and contractors are setting a fast pace.
With all major contracts now awarded, high-performing teams are mobilized and interface activities are in full swing this quarter.
SBM has placed purchase orders for several major equipment packages, including export injection gas compressor, main gas compressor and power generators (BHGE) and water injection pumps (Sulzer). SBM’s MPF (multi-purpose floater) Hull is progressing well at SWS in Shanghai and is over 30% complete.
TechnipFMC has also started procurement of long lead items, including forgings for manifolds, trees and jumpers. Umbilical tube manufacturing has started at Sandvik in the Czech Republic.
Saipem has progressed major purchase orders for linepipe (Sumitomo), insulation and coating (Shawcor), and buoyancy modules (Balmoral). Engineering is progressing for flowline expansion and anchoring.
In addition, OSI has started casting pours for the riser hang-off assembly receptacles at Bradken in Washington.

On time with engagement
Continual engagement, transparency and strong relationship-building with stakeholders are at the heart of the Liza Projects.
These attributes continue unabated in Phase 2 as all EPC companies are finalizing their baseline schedules and the overall integrated project schedule.
In Guyana, we completed stakeholder engagements for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which has recently been finalized with the EPA. We are now working with the EPA on our environmental permit and we continue to engage with key ministries on our Development Plan.
We expect to have key permit approvals in place ahead of our Final Investment Decision (FID). To that end, we are working through the deliverables and reviews required for Gate 3, and we are coordinating with our co-venturers in preparation for FID in the coming months.
You heard it from a Guyanese – how to pronounce ‘Guyana’
Russell Carter is the ExxonMobil Operations Technical Coordinator, working across functions to prepare for first oil. He also happens to be Guyanese and was willing to help us clear the air on the correct pronunciation of ‘Guyana.

Guyana Project Dragon Boat teams roar into action
The Liza Projects team built on the One Team approach when they took part in the Annual YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge – Rowing for a Cause. Over 75 project team members from ExxonMobil and its contractors participated on three integrated teams that competed against nine other teams in six team building events.
Sporting the 2018 Guyana Amazon Warriors Cricket Shirt, each team (Destiny, Unity and Prosperity) worked together and two of the teams (Destiny and Unity) made the final heat of the Dragon Boat Race. Our Unity team finished first in the Dragon Boat Race finale and took second place overall for the challenge. The event enabled the team to work together, continue to build relationships and have some fun—all for a good cause.
