Design engineering for the Liza Phase 2 subsea tieback system is nearly complete, with the 90 percent design reviews completed for all risers, flowlines, jumpers and structures. Focus has now shifted to installation engineering in preparation for the 2020 offshore pipelay campaign. This change from a design focus to an execution focus is a key step toward Liza Phase 2 installation activities.
The 50 percent installation design reviews for the pipelay campaign on the FDS2 have also been completed. Members of the offshore vessel management and engineering teams from Liza Phase 1 joined their Liza Phase 2 counterparts in the review. This has allowed the lessons learned in the Liza Phase 1 offshore campaign to be transferred in near real time to benefit the Liza Phase 2 planning.
Sumitomo has completed nearly all linepipe manufacturing. Shipments of the linepipe to Shawcor’s facilities in Veracruz, Mexico and Channelview, Texas are progressing. Also at the Channelview location, riser pipe coating is ramping up after production started in September, while good progress continues in Veracruz on the coating of the flowlines.
Saipem has started fabrication work on the pipeline walking mitigation structures at its Intermare yard in Sardinia, Italy. Subsea structure fabrication continues at Gulf Island Services in Houma, Louisiana. The work focus here has shifted from structural fabrication to pipe welding activities. Manufacturing activities at Balmoral and Lankhorst continue according to plan, with over half of buoyancy modules complete and around 20 percent of riser strakes complete.
During the third quarter, Saipem achieved a SSHE milestone by reaching the one-year mark of “Perfect Days” of work of the Liza Phase 2 project. The Perfect Day concept is Saipem’s approach to delivering excellence in safety performance, protection of the environment and asset preservation. Saipem considers a Perfect Day one where all employees and contractors go home safely, the environment is not harmed, and no damage to assets is recorded.
